Inexpensive family activities in Lake County to end summer!

Are you looking for something to do with your family during the remaining few weeks of summer vacation?  Lake County offers many great opportunities for family fun, but we know that family activities can be expensive. Therefore, we’ve collected some fun summer activities in Lake County that are FREE or at least really cheap.

Festivals – There are still several festivals left this summer. Some upcoming festivals include Vernon Hills Summer Celebration July 19 – 22, Buffalo Grove Days Aug. 29 – Sept. 3, Lincolnshire Art Festival Aug.11 – Aug.12, Long Grove Vintage Days Aug. 18 – 19; Long Grove Apple Festival Sept 21-23 and Grayslake Color Aloft Balloon Festival on Aug. 25.

Go Bowling! – Sign up at kidsbowlforfree.com and your kids can bowl for FREE at several bowling alleys around the area including Arlington Lanes in Arlington Heights and Lakeside Recreation Center in Mundelien.

Paddle boarding – Check out paddle boarding at Independence Grove in Libertyville for $11 an hour or Lake Arlington in Arlington Heights for $12 an hour.

Go to a local beach – There’s a variety of beautiful beaches in Lake County. The Beach at Independence Grove – $4 per person, Jones Island Beach in Grayslake – free, Breezewald Beach Lake Zurich – free to Lake Zurich residents, Spring Lake Beach Lincolnshire – residents $4, non-residents $8 and Mundelien Dimond Lake Beach – weekdays $4, weekends $5.

Outdoor Concerts –  Don’t forget about the free outdoor concerts in various suburbs such as Libertyville, Buffalo Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Deerfield & Arlington Heights.

Go out for ice cream – This area offers an abundance of great ice cream places! Located in downtown Long Grove is a new shop called Covered Bridge Creamery. If you’re in the mood for frozen custard, Greg’s Frozen Custard in Mundelein is a fun 1950s style drive-in. Dairy Dream in Libertyville offers over 28 soft serve flavors at a reasonable price.

Playgrounds – Lake County has some amazing playgrounds including Longmeadow Park in Mundelein, Citizen Park in Barrington and Paulus Park in Lake Zurich.

Libertyville Lunch in the Park –  Every Friday for the rest of the summer, enjoy food from various local restaurants as well as live music. Bring a blanket and either buy or pack a picnic lunch.

Check out one of the Lake County forest preserves – Hike, bike, bird watch, fish & relax.

Go mini golfing  – Check out Par King in Lincolnshire. It has been a Lake County favorite since 1955 and is reasonably priced at $8.50 on weekdays and $9 on weekends.
